MICHAEL WONG
With 12 years of extensive post-secondary experience, Michael brings a unique blend of both enrolment services and faculty academic advising knowledge. As a program manager for numerous major university bursary and scholarship programs, he brings a deep understanding of all facets of the awards cycle. His appreciation in the value of holistic advising and the supports that contribute to student success comes from many years of student interactions and appointments as a financial advisor and academic advisor for students of all backgrounds. Michael has also served as a program advisor for First Nations Studies and been instrumental in several key initiatives for Indigenous students on-campus and in raising awareness of Truth and Reconciliation.
Michael worked closely with many post-secondary institutions and education providers to help design and implement BC’s first mandatory professional development program for all licensed residential builders in the province, and helped create BC Housing’s qualifications licensing program for students studying to become first-time licensed residential builders. At BC Housing, a life-long passion in helping others, particularly those who are disadvantaged, has informed Michael’s work in a wide range of disciplines including emergency management, risk prevention, and fire safety education.
In his travels, Michael indulges in his interest in art history, architecture and design. He combines his enjoyment of poetry with a love of narrative (he’s taken Robert McKee’s ‘Story’ workshop), and hopes to continue playing ice hockey into his old age.
Michael is excited and grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the meaningful impact that Beedie Luminaries creates in our community.
