For Chloe Gray from Cohort 2019, the most exciting part of the post-secondary experience so far has been the prospect of giving back. Chloe is most excited to explore the Faculty of Education as she navigates new friends, opportunities, and more!
What program will you be taking in post-secondary and why does it interest you?
I will be taking the General Studies program under the Faculty of Education. This interests me because it is such a broad program with so many different career paths. I like knowing I have other options if my first choice somehow falls through! I also like the freedom it gives me to explore and take a variety of courses.
Tell us a little bit about your background (growing up, going to school, extra-curricular activities, etc.).
I grew up in East Vancouver heavily involved with volunteer work outside of school as well as extracurriculars such as Student Council within the school. Academically, I always enjoyed English and Humanities-related courses.
Who inspires you, and why?
This may sound silly, but pre-Yale Rory Gilmore of Gilmore Girls. Her work ethic and determination was unmatched and extremely inspiring. I found that whenever I felt overwhelmed or like I couldn’t achieve something in school, I could turn on an episode and look to her for advice, inspiration, and motivation.
What motivates you, and why?
The thought of being able to give back to the community of East Vancouver that I grew up in using teaching and education is what motivates me to be the best student I can be. Knowing that my end goal is to help others really gives me a big push forward and burst of motivation.
What are your goals for the upcoming school year?
My goals for the upcoming school year are to get involved in student life and extracurriculars at SFU as well as succeed in the courses I choose to take.
What is one thing you learned in high school that you will take with you to post-secondary?
Work on your homework the same day its assigned. It really does make all the difference. Procrastination is never the answer!
What is one piece of advice you’d give to future Luminaries?
Just be yourself! It may be a cliché piece of advice, but it really does go a long way. If you are confident in who you truly are, it will shine through and make the whole transition in to post secondary a lot easier!
