What is your field of study and why does it interest you?
I am currently planning on majoring in Health Science and minoring in psychology. Reason being, I love being able to help and take care of people. I also happen to love studying health science and psychology. I thought that if I enjoyed helping people and studying these types of courses, why not pursue a career in these areas because I could hit “two birds with one stone.”
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
As someone who gets anxious a lot and overthinks things, my main concern tends to bring me away from what I should be focusing on. Because of this, my parents are always constantly reminding me to “Be present and take a moment to breathe.” That would definitely be my best piece of advice for anyone.
What would you name the autobiography of your life?
DANG 😂
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
Don’t worry. If it’s meant to be it’s meant to be.
What was the last experience that made you a better person?
Seeing my mom go out of her way to help people in need during the pandemic. She cooks vegetarian Vietnamese food once or twice a month and sells it to people in our community. Not only do people thoroughly enjoy her food but all the proceeds go towards people in Vietnam who are struggling to find and have access to basics necessities during the pandemic.
What is something you learned in the last week?
Something that I learned in the last week is that it’s difficult to be happier if you’re actively trying to find it (having the explicit intention to be happier). In other words, if you naturally let yourself go through an experience without having expectations, you’re more likely to find happiness then if you’re actively trying to find it.
What’s the most important trend you see today?
Saving money and opening up a TFSA account. I definitely see importance in learning how to be financially independent starting at a young age. When you learn to do something over a long time, it becomes a habit and in this case, saving money overtime can be a huge benefit and advantage for everyone.
Who inspires you and why?
My family for sure! They are extremely hard working and show me the importance of mindfulness and compassion. They also show me how to work through challenges that I am constantly facing and teaching me how it’s always important to lean on the people you care for.
What would people be surprised to find out about you?
I’ve been vegetarian since I was five (by choice) and I’m left handed.
What is your favourite thing about being a part of Beedie Luminaries?
I love being part of, surrounded by, and representing such an amazing community of individuals who are all unique, kind and so understanding. I am so proud to call myself a Luminary.
