Fall Reflections: How a Summer at Trulioo Sparked Farwa’s Growth
As we enter the second month of the school year, students have settled into their new classes and routines. Amid Vancouver’s vibrant fall colours, many—like Farwa Arain—are reflecting on the valuable experiences they gained over the summer through internships, co-ops, travels, and more.
At Beedie Luminaries, we believe in the power of experiential learning—and the extraordinary value students bring when they partner with forward-thinking companies. This summer, Farwa joined Trulioo as a Data Science intern, and we are excited to share Farwa’s experience.
In the feature below, Farwa reflects on how her internship helped her build confidence, develop new skills, and form professional connections that will support her continued success in her second year.

Farwa’s Journey: From Pharma Studies to Data & Discovery
“Hi, my name is Farwa Arain. I’m currently completing my first-year courses for pharmaceutical sciences at Douglas College. I chose this path because I’m fascinated by how medicines are designed and interact with the body. The field is challenging, innovative, and full of opportunities for research.”
Over the summer, Farwa joined Trulioo as a Data Science Intern. Her daily tasks were varied: cleaning and organizing datasets, supporting internal decision-making, and more. As she grew more confident with Excel, she independently designed an internal VOP tracker that reduced manual data entry and streamlined internal workflows. She also collaborated with a business analyst to perform pricing and packaging analysis, where she was responsible for simplifying and quality-assuring verification rules to ensure customers were classified correctly.
Of all the skills she honed, Farwa says she especially enjoyed exploring the depth of Excel functions to manipulate and manage data in ways that directly supported her team.
While her long-term dream lies in biotechnology, she notes how invaluable the internship was:
“The internship not only strengthened my technical skills but also helped me grow personally … Trulioo gave me insight into the corporate world, and showed me how trust and connections are built in a professional setting.”
To anyone considering an internship, her advice is simple but powerful: network, network, network more. She especially emphasizes that even if someone isn’t in your exact field, the connections and learning you gain can be transformative.
Farwa also speaks warmly of her Trulioo team. She felt fortunate for a supportive environment in the DST group. She cites her managers, Patricia and Haley, as especially kind mentors—making time despite busy schedules to guide her (even down to helping her connect her mouse to a desktop!). When they weren’t available, Radhi would step in and assist. Their meetings, she recalls, often spilled over from work to book talks, blending productivity with genuine human connection.
