We’ve been spotlighting some of our Beedie Luminaries and will continue this feature over the coming months, however, we’d also like to feature the Mentors who have generously volunteered their time to support our inaugural cohort! Meet mentor, Cindy Cheuk who is a Partner at the law firm, Dentons. She primarily practices insolvency litigation and she has appeared as counsel for clients in all levels of Court in British Columbia
Why did you decide to become a mentor with Beedie Luminaries?
I am familiar with the Beedie group through my legal work. I admire the family’s commitment to philanthropy. I have had many kind mentors who have supported me in my career and I hope to pay it forward.
What was the best advice you were ever given by your mentor?
There are people who don’t care about you or wish you ill. Don’t give those people too much power over you.
What would you tell your 18 year-old self now?
Try to find the humour in things. Have a laugh, dust yourself off and then attack the challenge in a new way.
What are you reading right now?
The New Yorker every week!
