Udhay Mangat from Cohort 2020 of the Beedie Luminaries Scholarship program is currently pursuing his Bachelor of Kinesiology at Simon Fraser University. Learn more about Udhay below.
What is your field of study and why does it interest you?
I am studying kinesiology. Kinesiology interests me because I love sports and I love helping people. Kinesiology incorporates both aspects into one which I love. I hope to become a physiotherapist and help athletes get back to playing the sports they love.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Be kind no matter how someone acts with you”
What would you name the autobiography of your life?
“Life of Udhay Mangat”
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
“Life’s a marathon not a race. The marathon continues”
What was the last experience that made you a better person?
Coaching a youth basketball team. It made me a better person because I got to pass down my knowledge as well as learn for the kids how important being a strong role model is.
What is something you learned in the last week?
Patience is key in everything you do, rushing things never works.
What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?
People supporting small businesses because its cool seeing that people are stepping away from the large companies to support other peoples passions.
Who inspires you and why?
My parents because they go above and beyond to make sure I am set up for success.
What would people be surprised to find out about you?
I was once the youngest ACL repair patient at Children’s Hospital (9 years old).
What is your favourite thing about being a part of Beedie Luminaries?
The sense of community and mentorship that comes with it.
