From Cohort 2020, Victoria Patenaude is excited to make a difference as an educator. Pursuing a Bachelor of Education at Vancouver Island University, Victoria is excited for this new chapter of her life.

What program will you be taking in post-secondary and why does it interest you?

I will be attending Vancouver Island University, studying a Bachelor of Education. This interests me because I want to help young people thrive in life as my teachers did for me. Regardless of their home life, they can have a safe place to learn and grow.

Tell us a little bit about your background (growing up, going to school, extra-curricular activities, etc.).

I grew up in beautiful British Columbia, floating around from city to city, depending on where work was. It wasn’t until high school that I finally settled down in one place for a while. I immediately joined the Me to We club and got involved in a performing arts program. I knew I needed to be active in school activities in order to make friends and go far in life. I don’t think I would be where I am today if I didn’t volunteer and join performing arts.

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I wanted to be a singer when I grew up!

What was your senior quote in high school?

My senior quote was “break me off a piece of that fancy feast”

What are you looking forward to in your freshman year?

Freshman year, I am so looking forward to math class!

Who would you have dinner with if you could have it with any person, living or dead?

I would want to have dinner with Margaret Sanger. She was a very influential woman in the women’s suffrage movement as well as the development of family planning and birth control.

What is the best piece of advice someone has ever given you?

“Choose a goal and don’t dwindle from it. Once you’ve made a goal for yourself, stick to it.”

What was the last book you read?

The Birth of the Pill by Jonathan Eig.

What would people be surprised to find out about you?

The amount work and effort I have put into being successful for my future.
