Richmond News Repost: Richmond students receive Beedie Luminaries scholarships
A new medical scholarship category has been added this year by the non-profit society.
Twelve Richmond students are receiving the annual Beedie Luminaries scholarship this year.
A total of 310 B.C. students from 34 municipalities are receiving scholarships totalling a record $13+ million through the foundation for the upcoming academic year.
Beedie Luminaries, founded by B.C. philanthropist Ryan Beedie, was established in 2018 to support students facing socio-economic challenges and other life adversities as they pursue post-secondary education.
The non-profit society expanded its program this year to include a new Family Practice Medical Degree Award scholarship in addition to its Soaring Higher In Education (SHINE), Refugee and Immigrant Student Education (RISE), Single Parent Award for Resilience and Knowledge (SPARK) and BUILD, for those pursuing skilled trades scholarships.
Nine of the 187 students receiving the SHINE scholarship are from Richmond: David Wu, Bilal Mohamed, Aryana Ramento, Alisha Shaikh, Vivian Nguyen, Ran Guo, Lyra Padua, Tina Zhou and Hiba Mohamed.
