Squamish Chief Repost: Squamish woman earns Beedie Luminaries scholarship as she works to become a Red Seal electrician
SQUAMISH CHIEF — Josie Moore, born and raised in Squamish and currently working in residential construction in Whistler, has secured Beedie Luminaries funding to help her complete the next levels of her electrical apprenticeship.
For her, it is about being recognized as much as it is about the money.
Squamish’s Josie Moore, who is working to be a Red Seal electrician, has garnered a Beedie Luminaries Foundation BUILD scholarship.
The scholarships provide up to $20,000 for those pursuing the skilled trades.
“Each student also receives services designed to help them thrive, including
mentorship, student success advising, workshops, and peer support, valued at up to $30,000 per student,” reads the news release about the scholarships.
Moore, 29, who was born and raised in Squamish, said while the money is helpful, it is being recognized that means the most.
“For me, it just meant that someone saw my potential, and was willing to invest in my potential, and (gave) me the opportunity to really go full force into the trades,” she said.
