JULIE BAERG

As a high school counsellor, Julie feels it is an honour to journey alongside students as they move through their high school years. To earn their trust and help guide them as they find themselves and follow their interests is a place of privilege. For over 20 years, in the Coquitlam School District and the Vancouver School Board, Julie has supported students to believe in themselves, cultivate healthy relationships with others, focus on their learning and plan for the future.

Julie holds a Bachelor of Arts from UVIC, a Bachelor of Education from UBC, and a Master of Science in Psychology: Mental Health and School Counselling from Western Washington University. As a strong supporter of post-secondary education, Julie is honoured to be a member of the Counsellor Advisory Committee for both UBC and the University of Toronto. Her knowledge of the role that social, cultural, and athletic activities play in the mental health of students led her to join the Board of the Lucy L. Woodsworth Fund for Children which serves children of lower income families in Vancouver.

As a first generation Canadian, Julie understands the struggles faced by many families in providing access to post-secondary education for their children. As a high school counsellor, she sees the tangible difference that scholarships and bursaries make to her students from lower income families, allowing them to pursue their purpose. Julie is grateful for the opportunity to support the life-changing work of this scholarship program.
