Ashleigh Roy from Cohort 2020 looks forward to studying Engineering at Simon Fraser University. Learn more about Ashleigh below.

What is your field of study and why does it interest you?

Engineering, because my high school physics teacher had us make big projects every unit and I loved creating and building things with the utilization of physics and math, engineering just seemed to be the “big kid” application of that.

What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Don’t assume other people are judging you just because you judge yourself the hardest.

What would you name the autobiography of your life?

Organized Chaos.

Do you have a motto or personal mantra?

Nobody really cares what you’re doing so do what makes you happy.

What was the last experience that made you a better person?

Moving into the dorms has given me the opportunity to be more independent and self sufficient than ever before.

What is something you learned in the last week?

Taking care of myself mentally is extremely important for me to succeed.

What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?

The increase publicity of everyday people investing and getting involved in the stock market.

Who inspires you and why?

Bob Ross inspires me with his forgiving and positive attitude as well as his scenic art.

What would people be surprised to find out about you?

That I really enjoy combative sports (I was a wrestler for 4 years).

What is your favourite thing about being a part of Beedie Luminaries?

The friendships I’ve created with people especially when school is online, its become so helpful to have a community of people to connect with.
