“Stop worrying so much about the present that you miss out on what you looked forward to in the past.” Meet Beedie Luminary Melody Weng
What is your field of study and why does it interest you?
I am studying microbiology and immunology because I am intrigued by the diverse intricacies of biological mechanisms. I also recognize the many inequities in the Canadian healthcare system, and am ultimately driven towards implementing conscientious policies in healthcare.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Stop worrying so much about the present that you miss out on what you looked forward to in the past.
What would you name the autobiography of your life?
Save Money Live Better
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
Always put your best effort into anything you do.
What was the last experience that made you a better person?
I’ve been running more lately and pushing myself to run longer distances. I’ve learned to appreciate the improvements I make in pacing and mileage rather than focusing on perfecting each run I do.
What is something you learned in the last week?
I am learning to appreciate the outdoors and beautiful weather in the lower mainland.
What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?
The increased awareness and advocacy surrounding mental health– make sure to check in on your friends and show them you care about their wellbeing!
Who inspires you and why?
I find something to admire in every single one of my friends, they inspire me to become a better version of myself.
What would people be surprised to find out about you?
I’m really easy to talk to and I have a dynamic personality — I can click well with just about anyone!
What is your favourite thing about being a part of Beedie Luminaries?
The mentorship program– my mentor and I have connected really well this year, and I am so thankful to have the chance to learn from them.
