What program will you be taking in post-secondary and why does it interest you?
I will be attending University of British Columbia taking Romance Languages. It interests me because it is a unique way to dive deep into learning about different cultures and will permit me to gain a greater appreciation of the countries I explore. Also, I hope to be able to do outreach work in other countries by providing opportunities to others through education, demonstrating the meaningful impact the knowledge of languages can be.
Tell us a little bit about your background (growing up, going to school, extra-curricular activities, etc.).
Being born in Italy and having Venezuelan parents has made growing up very creative. Most evenings are a mix of homemade Italian dishes with loud Spanish music playing in I have always loved to talk with others and laugh loudly with new friends, but at the same time, I greatly appreciate any alone time I get with books. Since I’m not the greatest fan of gyms, I tend to go outdoors. I can usually be found running long distance, and on the occasional hike!
When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
When I was a kid I wanted to be a person that decorated beautiful houses around the world or a firewoman.
What was your senior quote in high school?
“We’re all just little creatures laughing, learning, and loving beneath the Sun.”
What are you looking forward to in your freshman year?
I am most looking forward to just being able to attend classes and be learning! I have missed school so much!
Who would you have dinner with if you could have it with any person, living or dead?
There are many mind-boggling characters that would be incredible to have dinner with, nevertheless I would faint at the opportunity to dine with Shawn Mendes.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Be undeniably yourself. Dance and sing in front of strangers and then laugh at yourself with them. And be ever so true and kind.”
What was the last book you read?
The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.
What would people be surprised to find out about you?
I had never eaten meat/chicken/fish etc. until the age of 13. I’m still vegetarian and one of my favourite things to do is to eat food.
