This is Lovely Ranges. Attending Simon Fraser University for Interactive Arts and Technology, Lovely is a part of our 2019 Cohort of Beedie Luminaries.

Simon Fraser University
What program will you be taking in post-secondary and why does it interest you?
School of Interactive Arts and Technology. I love that it is possible to mix both creative expression and technology together.
Tell us a little bit about your background (growing up, going to school, extra-curricular activities, etc.).
I grew up in Cavite, Philippines and immigrated to Vancouver, Canada at the age of 9. In my spare time, I like to volunteer for tech-related events, go to craft fairs, farmers’ markets, explore nature, cross-stitching. I prefer the Country over City. My favourite season is Spring. My favourite music genres are indie, alternative rock, r&b, and hip hop.
Who inspires you, and why?
Artists, community organizers, immigrants, teachers. For always working the hardest, and bringing meaning to life.
What motivates you, and why?
Literature! Any piece of writing, articles, journal entries, non-fiction, fiction. I love that I can enter a world full of thoughts without having to actually go anywhere, and the human mind is so full of curiosity, ambition, and wonder.
What are your goals for the upcoming school year?
I hope to make new friends, join a club, attend a hackathon.
What is one thing you learned in high school that you will take with you to post-secondary?
Support systems are everything!
What is one piece of advice you’d give to future Luminaries?
Never doubt yourself to the point where you allow yourself to miss multiple opportunities, you are capable of more than you think!
