As a student at Simon Fraser University, Beedie Luminary Sarra Pirmohamed has shown a strong interest in biomedical physiology and the workings of the human body. As she works towards her Bachelor of Science, we asked Sarra a few questions to get to know her better. Read more to learn about her.
What is your field of study and why does it interest you?
I am currently studying Biomedical Physiology because I love learning about the body and all its intricacies!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Focus on what you can control” I feel that it can save one so much stress and worry if we just focus on what we have control over.
What would you name the autobiography of your life?
The endless journey. I am learning new things every day and each day is a new journey and experience in itself.
Do you have a motto or personal mantra?
Be yourself. Sometimes I find myself trying to people please and I lose myself, so my mantra helps me come back to myself.
What was the last experience that made you a better person?
I recently jumped in a freezing cold lake and it really made me appreciate the people and environment around me more and realize that there is so much more to something than just what you can see. (The lake looked the same as it did in the summer, but at the same time, it was completely different).
What is something you learned in the last week?
I learned how to veganize one of my favourite pasta recipes!
What’s the coolest (or most important) trend you see today?
My favourite trend that I see today is people making and upcycling their own clothes instead of participating in fast fashion. I think it’s amazing that people are using their creativity while doing their part to save the planet.
Who inspires you and why?
My grandma inspires me because she has been through so much in life, but continues to be the most selfless person I know. She is also very independent and works so hard for what she has, which is also very inspiring.
What would people be surprised to find out about you?
People might be surprised to find out that I have over 25 plants in my house!
What is your favourite thing about being a part of Beedie Luminaries?
My favourite part about Beedie Luminaries is my mentor! He has taught me so much and I have learned a lot about myself in our meetings.
